The most amazing thing happened to me today. I had a website called parkworlds.com—if you’re seeing this and it’s still up there. This is the same day that I changed the name of the project from Parkworlds.com to School of Stores.
I searched on Google for Park World’s website just to see if it would come up, and it did. Second and third and probably more down the results—I didn’t keep scrolling because I looked at what was the first link. Park World is a theme-park-focused news magazine that has been around since 1987. I checked the trademark office, and I probably hadn’t seen the trademark. It expired in 2009. It was around from like 1985 or 1987 all the way to 2009, and then the trademark expired, so the trademark was dead.
Their website was at parkworld-online.com, so I knew that parkworld.com was something else: an electrical-cables online store. It’s a store that all they sell is electrical cables, and they’re like from China or something like that. That’s not interfering with theme-park entrepreneurship. Okay, no problem. Someone’s going to say people are going to be confused that this thing is the same thing as that. No—but Park World magazine about theme parks? That sounds very similar. If I would say, “Hi, this is Jesse from Park World,” in an email—I didn’t send out any emails yet. I had a project for a month and a half and didn’t send any emails yet. But if I had, people would have said, “Don’t you know there’s already Park World magazine about theme parks that’s been around since the 1980s?” You didn’t even know that, and they’re still around. They’re still there.
So then I think of School of Stores, very soon, to teach entrepreneurship. And I think, okay, well it’s the same thing. Let’s look up the same thing that ended Parkworlds: looking them up through the search engine, which usually to me isn’t a thing I’m thinking about with Parkworld’s website. Oh, somebody else has that. Oh, I didn’t check parkworld—no, no, it’s parkworld-online.com. Oh, okay. That project didn’t die in 2009. They’re still going. They just don’t have the trademark in the United States anymore. In the United Kingdom it was like World’s Fair Limited, the company who had owned the trademark. They hired a U.S. attorney from Cincinnati.
Anywho, so I look up School of Stores website to see what comes up. This is the amazing thing that happened. And it said dad… school spirit, spirit store or something like that. I think: yes. So that’s how cheer can be directly adjacent without the name of the project being cheer, or making it so much about cheer. We can always make it more or less have cheer in the project, but it’s always directly adjacent to school spirit. So School of Stores—the school of school spirit—cheer can always be adjacent.
I wanted to record that. I thought that was an amazing thing that happened. It was from searching from the name of what the website had been: name, website, search. Oh—project it ended with that name. New name? Name, website, search. Whoa. Very cool.
